Hey everyone! It’s the start of a new week.. the second week of the new year! I hope everyone is doing well with their resolutions even though this is the most difficult time of year to make changes! Our bodies are designed for hibernaton mode in the winter, and studies show the best time to make a change is in the spring.. 😉 but we will still have our resolutions anyways.
Isla and I wanted to make something fun yesterday.. so we decided to make rainbow waffles! I saw this idea floating around on Pinterest, but all of them were made with artifical dyes, which we really try to keep away from our home.
Artificial colors are linked to behavioral issues including ADD and ADHD. They can also cause skin issues and some studies have shown that they can even be linked to cancer.. It’s really a shame that we still allow this crap in our foods here in the US.
I had some natural food coloring I got at the Natural Products Expo in September.. and they are AMAZING for natural food dye! I’ve used MANY natural food colors and these produced the best color of any I have tried. You can get them on amazon here. We used the Pastel Colors.
Here’s how we did it! (Make sure to watch the video below.) IT’s SO super simple! Takes a little bit of prep, but the end result is so worth it. We used Birch Benders paleo waffle mix because that’s what we had on hand and it’s only add water.. but you can use any waffle mix you’d like! Birch Benders also has an amazing Keto Waffle Mix that is great!
We divded up the batter into 6 colors and added our food coloring to make the colors! Isla (3) loved helping mix the colors into the batter. SO fun! Then, I added each color into their own baggies and cut off the tip in the corner to pipe them onto the waffle iron. We used our Mini Dash waffle iron and it was perfect! Of course, an adult should do the waffle making.. the iron gets extremely hot!
And here’s how I put their plate together! This was SO FUN! I highly recommend trying this!
